The 4th of July is coming fast....too fast, I keep thinking this summer needs to slow down! With this in mind, I wanted to remind everyone to start getting those coupons built up for the weekend of July 2-4. Newspapers don't have coupon inserts on holiday weekends, but the stores will have some good deals on BBQing and picnic stuff for the 4th. If you can't find coupons locally, you can always order them, just remember to order soon so you have them in time to hopefully get some awesome saving :)
And just a word of warning if you've started to "like" companies on Facebook to look out for great deals, there is a guy posting on a lot of these pages saying he has coupons for that item. If you look carefully (without clicking on his info!) it says it will direct you to a blogspot that has coupons....it's a hoax. Tree Top posted that they had coupons on their site, assuming this guy had real coupons. But when they did some investigating, he had nothing.

Where do you find your deals?
I was just surfing my Facebook and started to wonder....how many of you know about the awesome couponing pages on Facebook? My favorite is Couponing to Disney, if you don't know about her, I highly recommend liking her page! She is constantly updating her page throughout the day with the latest and greatest deals or where to find such deals. I also have Budget Savvy Diva, Frugal Free Gal, and A Penny Filled Pantry. If you do visit their pages and "like" them, tell them that Extreme Saving on the Kenai sent you!
Another great way to find the exact coupons you want is to "like" the brands you buy regularly on Facebook. The downside to this is that when companies do a deal on Facebook, it's a limited supply for a limited time....and I do mean limited time! I've seen coupons go in a matter of minutes! So the downside to that is that you either have to watch Facebook like a hawk or get lucky when online :)

Sunday Papers
Well I must say I was highly disappointed with the inserts in today's papers :( Proctor & Gamble did have an insert, so there were three inserts in all, but nothing to get really excited about. I think they get better inserts down in the states...I wouldn't be surprised. I know some of the inserts down in the states had a coupon for a free bag of Seattle's Best coffee. Oh well, there are still some really good online coupons to be had!
A couple of my favorite new places that I have liked on Facebook is Couponing to Disney and A Penny Filled Pantry.
I'm going to be going through my coupon stockpile to see what is close to expiring and give some away. I do know already I have a couple of coupons for $5 off and V-Tech purchase over $19.99. This coupon expires at the end of July I believe. If anyone is interested leave me a comment saying so and I'll get in touch with you :)

Extra Coupons are always good!
Good morning :) Well, I missed the Bounty $5 coupon give away this morning, I hope some of you were more fortunate. That's what I get for not turning on my alarm. On a more for sure note, Proctor and Gamble will have an insert in this Sunday's paper along with the regular Red Plum and Smart Source. Extra coupons is always a bonus! P & G's insert will have more than $102 in savings!!
My Sunday ritual always includes buying two papers. I buy the Anchorage Daily News and our local Peninsula Clarion. The Peninsula Clarion carries ALMOST the same inserts, sometimes lacking in the Red Plum, but the Clarion is only $1. So don't forget to pick up your Sunday papers this weekend for some good coupons :)

Travel Savings
This tip came from a good friend of mine in Anchorage and can be VERY useful to anyone who lives in Alaska and flies (ok, I know this means everyone!) She recently purchased tickets for a trip she will be taking and when she looked at the airfare the next day, the fare had dropped $150!! Since it had been less than 24 hrs. since she had purchased her tickets, she canceled her original tickets and bought them at the lower published airfare. I had never thought of doing this! I've always been the person that once I bought my tickets, never gave them a second thought until it's time to leave for the airport.
Another travel saving tip I use is that I never buy airline tickets from the all in one travel websites. Don't get me I use them to look at airfare prices, but I won't purchase from them. I pick out my travel dates and look for the cheapest fare. Once I find that I will continue like I'm making reservations to find the flight I like and write all the flight information down. THEN I go to that specific airlines website and type in the dates I want and purchase the tickets with the airline themselves. This will save you the fee that the other sites charge. Yes it might be only $15 or so dollars, but an extra 10 min. will save you that $15 or so and think of what cute souvenir you can get with that extra money. Or if your like me, it's extra money for eating at that restaurant we don't have up here ;)

The best thing to happen to couponing is the internet. You can find coupons for just about anything! My favorite sites are coupons.com, coolsavings.com, redplum.com, and smartsource.com
These sites usually carry almost identical coupons, which makes it great for doubling up so if you do find a good sale, you've got multiple coupons to make it a better deal and stock up :)
What I have been trying to do is to look at the stores weekly adds that come out in the Sunday paper and match up coupons. If I don't have a coupon for something that is on sale that I could really use, I have ordered coupons. The only place I have bought coupons from so far has been e-Bay and have had really good luck with it. Paying for the coupons by Sunday night I have always had my coupons before the end of the week to use on the store sale. A word of caution though...people do seem to get carried away and some will over pay for their coupons, making them not worth it. So do your math before bidding, make sure you don't overpay. Also with EVERY auction on e-Bay, not just with coupons, look at the sellers feedback score. If it's below 99%, I will read their feedback to see what the problem is, most often it's a disgruntled buyer, but always shop with discretion.
Another site that sells coupons is Coupons and Things at Coupondede.com I have not tried this out yet, but looks really good. Over at Coupon-MakerOver.com, they have a coupon tom that you can type in what you're looking for and it will tell you if and where you can find those coupons. And lastly, going directly to the manufactures website will sometimes get some good coupons. I do have two email address's and use one of them solely for getting newsletters from the companies I buy products to. You can also like these companies on Facebook and will often times give fans a heads up when a coupon will be out in the Sunday paper or a deal just for fans. For instance, Bounty paper towel tomorrow only (June 3) from 11-1 pm eastern time (7-9 am our time) they will be giving away 5,000 $5 coupons!
Another good example of getting newsletters direct from the companies is Payless sent me a coupon for 20% off my ENTIRE purchase that expires June 8th and they just started a BOGO sale today :)
So if you don't have a junk email, start one! Unless you like lots of junk mail in your regular email.

Tips for a lower grocery bill : )
Sorry I haven't posted since my first post. Between the start of a beautiful summer and two sick kids, it's been crazy around here. I'm hoping to share some ways to lower your grocery bill, I'm sure a few of you out there are fans of TLC's Extreme Couponing like me and have seen some amazing savings. I was a little discouraged knowing that I will probably never see those kinds of savings, BUT I didn't give up and my couponing has turned into quite a passion.
My first tip would be to CLIP coupons, even if you don't need that item right now, chances are you will down the road. If you can save it, it could benefit you more in the long run. I've started collecting and saving coupons and keeping my eye on the store sales. The best way to use a coupon is when you can double it with a store sale. I'm sad that none of the stores here in Alaska don't double mfr. coupons, and that is why we won't be able to get "free" groceries.
I did get a response for Fred Meyer and it is a company wide policy as of March that they will not double coupons. Safeway also responded to me and let me know that it is a store to store decision whether or not to double coupons. So if you too would like to see Safeway double coupons, start talking to your store managers!!
I have been getting some great deals at Fred Meyer my last couple of trips. A few days ago I got a savings of 70%! The bulk of this purchase was 11 gal. of organic milk. I had also purchased Clorox wipes, Finish dishwasher gels, and a few other items. Everything was on clearance, which Fred Meyer marks down 50% add the 10% discount card that Fred Meyer sends out to residents of the Kenai Peninsula and the use of my $14 rebate card cut my retail price of $94 (this is original price before markdown) to $28.
Today was also another good shopping day. Not quite as good, but close to a $50 savings. In this $50 savings, I only used $9 in mfr. coupons. Some of my purchases were again from the clearance items and items that not only were on sale, but the sale flyer had store coupons for an additional savings. One of my best deals I feel was my coupons for cereal and fruit. One of the clearance items I purchased was a box of Kix cereal, marked half of because the box was a little dented, added to this was a coupon for $1 off two boxes of General Mills cereal. I had a coupon for $1 off two boxes of Frosted Flakes which were on sale for 2/$5 and another coupon for $1 my fruit when I bought two boxes of Frosted Flakes.
I have started to condition myself to not purchase anything if it's NOT on sale or I don't have a coupon for it. There are a few exceptions which is organic milk and believe me I loved finding it on clearance the other day!! I very rarely find that treat : ) The other exception is meat, it's kind of hard to find that on a good sale, but with another two BBQ holidays coming soon, keep your eyes out for good burger and hot dog sales.
